BACTERIAL, FUNGAL OR MITE INFECTION OF SKIN

Birds suffer from all types of skin diseases due to various causes can be due to injury or infection which may become ulcerated due to pecking .

SYMPTOMS
The general symptoms of skin infection are :
  1. Itching
  2. Redness
  3. Swelling
There can be 3 types of skin infection :
  • Bacterial skin of infections – caused by bacteria, such as bacilli, staphylococci and streptococci. The most common is Bumblefoot is caused by staphylococci.
  • Fungal skin of infections – though rare are caused by various fungi like Cryptococcus fungi, malassezia yeast, etc. They can occur anywhere on the body yeast infections usually occur around the beak.
  • Mite Infection of Skin – There are various types of mite infection, like red mites and scaly mites to name a few.
Treatment
Bacterial skin infections are treated with antibiotics, Fungal skin infections, are treated by anti fungal. And mites are treated by anti-mite treatment.
PREVENTION
Maintain Neat clean and Hygienic environment.
